Nie wieder Sechseck - Teil 1

Hallo,

... slowly but steady our big project "New Witch Tower" reaches its end. Nevertheless... there was still an important step in the building process missing, something Birgit really tried to avoid. I've always known why - she knew before that this would become no easy-going. But after finishing the kitchen (except for the fire in the fireplace, but I'm still convinced she well manage to get this done someday) it was time to furnish the upper floor and now Birgit wasn't able to ignore her missing building step anymore. Honestly speaking... you wouldn't ever furnish a room that doesn't have a roof over it, would you? What would you do if it started to rain? Well, okay, that barely ever happens in Birgit's livingroom... nevertheless... you never know... and even in the magical world it's better to have a good roof above your head.

But our witch tower is known for being hexagonal - and so the roof has to become hexagonal, too. Six of those roof parts must be fixed with the help of wooden strips to become a matching tower roof. Four of these will be permanently fixed to the part of the tower that is fixed to the base, the remaining two will go on the removable front.

I knew right from the start that this would be easier in theory than in reality. And also that I would hear a lot of heavy curses... I can tell you this in advance - I've been able to widely expand my vocabulary as far as curses in Old Babylonic are concerned. *LOL* And whenever she was not cursing my Birgit was sighing from the bottom of her heart: "NEVER AGAIN A HEXAGON!!!"

But apart from the problems with building the many parts together Birgit also had a clear vision how the roof should look like in the end. Of course the old witch tower was her model for this - I've found this picture in our archives.

Erinnert Ihr Euch?
Do you remember? The bedroom of the old witch tower has a ceiling in nightblue with rhinestones representing stars and framed pictures of a daylight sky - friendly greetings by René Magritte. And on the outside this roof is covered with copper. Something in that style was Birgit's aim - having in mind that the witch towers are sister towers. So she painted the roof parts in a second step nightblue on their insides, in a first step she already had painted the wood strips to resemble dark wood.

Looking good while drying on that blue chair, don't they? *grin* And this is how one finished roof part looks like:

So weit, so gut.
So far, so good. But now it was time for glueing together the four roof parts... and that's when my Birgit started to curse without stopping. But somewhen we had victory of human being against subject matter (at least temporary... don't ask how often one or even more roof parts got loose again... *aaaaaaarrrgggghhhhh*) and the bigger roof part was done. It reminded me of somehting at once - and so I thought by myself that I could have a little fun with it until Birgit was going to fix it to the tower. I was playing a little Cowboys and Indians and it was really loads of fun - at least until I said to Birgit: "Hey, Squaw, Chief Little Bear wants his honey milk right now!"

Phewey, no good... well, she said, just one more saying in that style and Chief Little Bear would have to go to bed barefooted... *rats* But I'm lucky that she's never angry at me for long and I wasn't angree at her because she was angry at me, you have to forgive something like that... anyhow the 4-parted roof was attached to the tower and I was supervising this bearsonally.

But then Birgit was just saying I would make a very good weather vane. Ha... now we're more than even with this "Hey, Squaw"-saying... *teehee*

You really have a good view from here... but not for long, it's really not that comfortable. But I had to leave my top position anyhow because now Birgit worked on the outside of the roof and painted it in copper.

And this is how it looks now inside:

Not that bad in my opinion... the nightblue ceiling looks good with the warm, light walls. But... would you believe that this is it already? *grin* No way... and whatsmore... when there is a part 1 there has to follow a part 2. There I'm going to show you the next steps of the roof. And I can already tell you this - there will also be a part 3... and this will be totally about "Never again a hexagon"... *LOL* But more about this soon - now I'm wishing to all of you a great weekend!

My dear Flutterby, I could hear Birgit cursing from here. What was she thinking making a hexagon roof. I know Granny would be having a melt down.
Tell her she did a great job and it looks very professional.

Hallo Ihr Lieben!

Lieben Gruß
